PROJECTS & PARTNERS

PROJECTS:

The Tree Life Project: educating arborists and homeowners about tree trimming and pruning and laws projecting nesting birds.

PARTNERS:

WildCare is our fiscal sponsor, allowing us to operate as a non-profit organization. WildCare and Hungry Owl work closely together to care for injured and displaced birds of prey through HOP's barn owl foster care program and Baskets for Birds program.

Golden Gate Raptor Observatory and Hungry Owl work closely together on the banding of barn owls that occupy our nesting boxes. Anne Ardillo, long-time GGRO volunteer, has a permit to band birds of prey, through GGRO staff member Buzz Hull, and is a volunteer with HOP. Allen Fish, Director of GGRO is a wonderful speaker who appears often at HOP events.

The Small World Tree Company - Jim Cairnes, our invaluable volunteer tree climber, provides us with invaluable help returning raptors to the nest and installing owl boxes. We highly recommend Small World for all your arboreal needs in Marin County!

Zach Wilder, Sonoma-Marin Arborists - Many thanks for helping return young raptors to their nests and for owl box installations. Please consider patronizing Sonoma-Marin Arborists for tree service!

Gophers Limited: Thomas Wittman provides excellent training and information on proper and effective gopher and mole trapping. We highly recommend his DVD! We have them available for sale, or they can be purchased from the Gophers Limited web site.

Kalle's Wild Honeybees: supporting our broader goal of environmental health and awareness through honeybee stewardship and education. researching technology that will help us maximize the learning potential of our box installments. (pdf file)

Morning Glory Cottage - Our own Trinka Marris runs Morning Glory Cottage - a lovely place for bird watchers. Mornings are especially glorious on this little farm! Nestled in the heart of Bear Valley, between Point Reyes National Seashore and the Olema Marsh, lies Morning Glory Cottage. Wake up to the sounds of the rooster crowing and the song of the Red-winged blackbird, as they sing in the new dawn.

Keep Barn Owls In Berkeley!—Keep Barn Owls in Berkeley (KBOIB) is a small, dedicated band of birding enthusiasts who seek to preserve the small population of Barn Owls that makes Berkeley its home. The presence of these amazing birds provides opportunity to educate and inform the community of the Barn Owl’s integral role in urban ecosystems

Nature Trip - We recommend Nature Trips and appreciate Noreen Weeden & Eddie Bartley's help with our projects!

Kendall-Jackson Vineyards has purchased 100 owl boxes from HOP for non-toxic rodent control in their vineyards.

Friends of HOP:

Mary Blake: Mary designed our beautiful logo and is a wonderful artist and friend to WildCare and teh Hungry Owl Project.

Jeannine Jourdan, artist, Jeannine Jourdan creates egg tempera portraits of insects and animals. Her love of the old masters tradition and the contemporary perspective she brings to her subject matter evoke a mysterious and exotic quality to her
representational paintings.
